Instruction and Management

To have a classroom culture that is safe and promotes inclusivity means that instruction and management has to coincide. To achieve a classroom climate such as this in my classroom I want my students to have connections to their own work by providing choice, and connecting ideation back to the students themselves. When students are engaged, and have connections to their own work, management becomes much easier to obtain. My job as a teacher is to make sure that each of my students is able to learn and is safe, having a set of expectations and providing boundaries early on will ensure that each student achieves success in the classroom.

  • Each student will be given a three-step system to recognizing and changing problematic behavior. The first step is recognition, using nonverbal warnings students will be alerted when a behavior is not creating an inclusive environment and will be given ample time to correct behavior.

  • Two- student will be taken away from situation and verbally address by teacher of the behavior that needs to be corrected. Student and teacher will work together to plan a course of action on how to correct behavior.

  • Third- student will work with teacher to write a contract in which the student recognizes action that was taken, how it affected class environment, and how they will address the situation before returning next class.

The art studio is a place in which materials, tools, and procedures all require respect which is why as a teacher I will use many different forms of communication to express art studio expectations. Around my room I will have diagrams, and written rules, and demonstrations that will include verbal, and visual learners alike. By having these accommodations and strategy, students will work with me so that no student falls by the way side and all students feel included and safe.
